Hi Tim,

So the conclusion is that the smarty-gettext package has been installed 
but the ./configure script cannot find it.

The ChangeLog of the bibledit-web version in the git repository has the 
following entry:

Copies the smarty-gettext plugin just in case the package does not 
install it correctly.

Could it be that this would fix the issue that you are seeing?

This version of bibledit-web has not yet been released, because it is 
still being worked on. But in your case it could be helpful to have this 
version..
