First of all hi to all the list, since this is my first post...
I've been programming for 6 years (dos, win32, linux) and have a fair
amount of graphics experiance (mainly 3D), though not that much with the
various APIs
A few sugesstions:

If we rip out DD and replace it with a mixture SDL/OpenGL, it'll compile
under windows (even msvc) anyway, providing we through the right
librarys at it, so keeping win32 compatibility isn't really a problem
(porting back to win32, when SDL is used should be trivial).
