I just built the newer swarm snap with the old hdf5-1.2.2, and did not
get that error about hdf5. I'm using the RH "cutting edge" gcc-2.96.69,
since it has been working for a while and compiles everything except
hdf5-1.4.

In the swarm build I didn't get any crashes or warnings about hdf5 in
the rpm build process, and I'm confused about why.

I've installed the rpms I built, and they run swarm apps, and give new
warnings/errors as needed. I'm sure I'm getting the new Swarm package
because I see this, for example. This is a new one, isn't it?

cc1obj: warnings being treated as errors
ASMObserverSwarm.m: In function `-[ASMObserverSwarm buildObjects]':
ASMObserverSwarm.m:127: warning: invalid receiver type `void '
ASMObserverSwarm.m:127: void value not ignored as it ought to be

ASMObserverSwarm.m:136: warning: invalid receiver type `void '
